Domain stunts
A year ago, I’ve forgotten to renew one of my domains, and being adopted by a squatter.
I’ve tried to negotiate with the squatter, he was asking 25 times the price of my renewal fees.
So I walked.
Then I used the pre-order service offered by one of the registrars, set the domain on as pre-order, and forget about it.
It has been a year after, the domain is expiring, and the squatter did not renew it. But something very strange happening.
Notification from my registrar at October 30, 2006:-
We’ve noted that the following changes occurred between 09/18/2006 and 10/29/2006:
The domain expiration date has been changed:
OLD: 28-oct-2006
NEW: 28-oct-2007
So it seems the squatter has renewed the domain. Right?
Nope. At December 11, 2006, the domain expiration date has reverted:
OLD: 28-oct-2007
NEW: 28-oct-2006The domain status has been changed:
OLD: REGISTRAR-LOCK
NEW: redemptionPeriod
“Redemption Period”, means the domain is on the way to delete. Good news for me.
At January 11, 2007:
The domain status has been changed:
OLD: redemptionPeriod
NEW: pendingDelete
Fantastic news, no body care about that domain!
But 6 days later, a big let down:
The registrar has been changed:
OLD: FUSHI TARAZU, INCORPORATED
NEW: DOMAINSCOSTLESS.CA INC.The WHOIS server has been changed:
OLD: whois.fushitarazu.com
NEW: whois.domainscostless.caThe domain expiration date has been changed:
OLD: 28-oct-2006
NEW: 15-jan-2008
Damn it, some squatters grabbed it again! My registrar sending me an email on the same day, confirming that the domain being registered by other, and they have failed the mission.
I was about to write a nasty letter to my registrar for the matter, then domain status changed again.
January 21, 2007
The domain expiration date has been changed:
OLD: 15-jan-2008
NEW: 20-jan-2008
Extended 5 days for expiry? How can that happen?
When I was about to give up, 4 days later on January 25, the domain being captured successfully by my registrar!
I was like .. huh?
What was going on?
The domain going to expire on 23-jan-2008, back dated 2 days from the last expiry date.
I’ve got the domain back after 14 months. It was really an amazing stunt back there. I don’t know what was happened, and I am not interested to know, frankly.
It smells like Enron.
